Biography
Tiziana Moneta and Gabriele Rota, who recently reached forty years of artistic partnership, have established themselves in the judgment of critics and audiences alike, standing out as one of the most compelling duos, internationally renowned for their interpretive versatility in the piano four-hands and two-piano repertoire.
The Duo, trained in the schools of Carlo Pestalozza, Nikita Magaloff, Jörg Demus, Ilonka Deckers and Aldo Ciccolini for piano, and of Vittorio Fellegara for composition, possesses a repertoire that, ranging from the classics to contemporary music, includes original works and authorial arrangements of chamber and symphonic masterpieces, contributing decisively to sparking interest in music-making of an uncommon standard.
The Duo is a regular guest at Italy's most prestigious concert venues and has also undertaken numerous tours in Germany, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Croatia, Poland, Romania, Spain, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine, often broadcast live by radio stations across Europe.
The two pianists have performed world premieres of contemporary music at major festivals in Italy and abroad, and regularly give lectures and masterclasses.
Among their many recordings, notable ones include the world premiere recording of works by Respighi and Brahms, the complete works for piano duo by Debussy, Ravel and Dvořák, Mendelssohn's Concerto in A-flat major for two pianos and orchestra, and music by Schubert, Schumann, Stravinsky and the most important Italian composers.
To mark their thirtieth anniversary as an artistic partnership, a CD entirely devoted to Mendelssohn's music was released on the La Bottega Discantica label, presented with great success in Milan, Turin, Modena and Bergamo.
After a 2019 recording of Russian music (featuring Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and the Suite from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker), the Duo returned to Brahms in 2022 with a new album featuring the Serenade Op. 11 and Souvenir de la Russie.
The Duo subsequently recorded Dvořák's Serenade Op. 22 and Schumann's Bilder aus Osten [Pictures from the East], released on an album available across all digital platforms (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.).
Most recently, a new CD has been released featuring a selection of Russian composers — Tchaikovsky (Swan Lake), Rachmaninoff (Morceaux Op. 11), Glinka (Valse Fantasie) and Rimsky-Korsakov (Capriccio Espagnol) — an album that crowns the two pianists' forty years of artistic collaboration.
